Happy New Years Eve 2005
The drive yesterday was good. Over the mountain and to the Inland Empire via winding roads and open space. Open space that when living in Southern California you dont expect to see so close to home where houses are packed in next to each other and people are everywhere. I did not come back here yesterday as I realized that the rest of the day when we arrived home belonged to my wife, and to the Texas Tech Red Raiders (No, I did not go to school in Lubbock, I went to Cougar High).
But something is important about it all... and hopefully for 2005 and that is relationships. The tragedy in Asia should tell us all again as 9/11 did that life is very fragile and can be gone in an instant. All we have is what we have made of relationships with each other while life continues on. We cant take the money or things with us, we dont take the relationships with us either, but we do leave lasting impressions in the relationships we have worked to build.
I have tried all the other measures of living, in business, in things, in being at the top of the mountain and at the very bottom. As I live each day with my trache, my G-tube, my CTS-V and my wonderful wife and children (getting too grown up at 22, 20 and 18) I realize that the mercy that God has given me to wake up each day is a gift I cannot let go of. Even when I wrestle with it I just cannot let go. Yes, two years ago I found a stage IV-a Squamous Cell when things seemed to be really going my way, when in fact they were not. So take some time, build that relationship or those relationships this coming year.
Slow down, smell the roses the work and the success will take care of themselves if you make your relationships right. Start with God, then work through your family and your work..... it will be a good year.
(for those of you not familiar with trache, g-tube, CTS-V, stage IV-a, squamous cell, take some internet time to research and you will see that some are for fun, some are not fun and some just keep me alive) livingthedream
